Mary was faced with a tough task, to explain to her future husband that she was impregnated through the Holy Spirit and that she was still a virgin. Imagine being told something of that magnitude. It would be hard to believe, and even harder to stay around and still marry the person. However, Joseph, the man that Mary was engaged to, was obedient to the angel of the Lord that appeared to him in a dream and married her still. The conception and birth of Jesus would be hard to accept, especially if one tried to place logical reasoning behind it. However, God already knew that and sent angels to give an explanation of the situation. Fortunately, Joseph was willing to listen and follow His will regardless of what the situation seemed like. At that time, seemingly the only two options were to either stone Mary or divorce her quietly. Due to Joseph’s obedience, the prophecy of the Lord’s coming was fulfilled.

Introduction

This workbook journal is designed with the purpose of helping you come to terms with who you really are, who you currently perceive yourself to be and how to develop an attitude of placing yourself in a position for the Lord to change you into what ‘He’ wants you to be. This is the process of cultivating the fruit of the Spirit through daily introspection and application of the findings as the Holy Spirit leads you.

If you follow the outline of this workbook and journal accordingly, you will note that the fruit of the Spirit is a change in being. It is not to be viewed as a lifestyle but as a state of grace promoted from within. You will begin to focus on how to become more loving, patient, gentle or faithful. Why, because you will begin a conversion from the old into the new. Read I John 3:14. The fruit of the Spirit is the “new” in the life of a person who has passed from death unto life in Jesus Christ.  “…old things have passed away; behold all things are become “new”. (II Corinthians 5:17)

As you answer the questions honestly, you will see that the key is surrender, a willingness to die to self and live for God and for others. Let go of yourself and be reminded that it is ok. We are ALL sinners who have come short of the glory of the Lord. We all need the covering grace of Christ. You will be challenged to remember that the ‘Fruit of the Spirit’ is exactly that, the ‘fruit’; the result of salvation and not the means.

So be honest, dig deep and let go………… so that the spirit of the Lord can be upon you.

And so our lives must reflect that fact.  However, often times they do not. There are more Christians conducting and living a lifestyle outside of God’s will than ever before and that is because of a corrupted vision of the kind of wealth desirous of a true Christian life.

According to Wikipedia, self-esteem is a term used in psychology to reflect a person’s overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs and emotions such as triumph, despair, pride, and shame. A person’s self-esteem may be reflected in their behavior, such as assertiveness, shyness, confidence or caution.  Self- esteem can basically be explained as the way you feel about yourself and can be demonstrated in different ways.

The conduct of a person is determined by the attitude or mindset dwelling within. A very brilliant writer, James Allen, once declared in one of his essays, “As a man thinketh, so is he”. The inspiration from that very famous statement was found in the book of Proverbs in the twenty third chapter and seventh verse. Our savior Jesus Christ also taught that the state of one’s mind is the foundation of all of his activity. “For within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed” found in Mark 7:21. Your view of yourself directly correlates with your behaviors, therefore if a person has an unhealthy view of himself, it will be exemplified in his behaviors.

Devotion Excerpt:

DEVOTION #1 – All God’s Work is Done with Faithfulness

For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. ~Psalm 100:5

We are called not only to believe in God, but ‘to believe’ God; to believe and stand upon ‘His word’. When He says what He is going to do, trust that He will indeed do it. ‘Therefore have I hope, it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are consumed, because His compassion fails not. They are new every morning and great is thy faithfulness’. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Too often we fail to experience His faithfulness because we do not trust. We fail to capture the wonderful works within His word because we do not have faith. We must see the Lord in all we do, and all that we are. The whole earth is full with His unfailing love and His faithfulness; everything He has ever done is a revelation and testament to it. We must long to taste of His goodness and ask Him to teach us to depend and wait upon Him no matter what happens.

We have to trust and believe His faithfulness.  We learn to trust in the Lord the more we become acquainted with Him; the more we seek after Him to demonstrate His faithfulness.  “Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”

It should not be surprising to us that Faith in the Lord is the pathway to experiencing His goodness and all the wonders of His work. Faith is one of the relational realities that allow a child of God to live by His grace. ‘Faith accesses grace.’ (Romans 5:2)

Just keep remembering that no matter what happens – He will never change. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

‘For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does’.  (Hebrews 10:3)

Point to Ponder:  God does not change!

Believe God’s Word

When you believe God’s Word as truth, you are exercising your faith. To exercise means to use or apply something. As Christians we use or apply our faith as we believe God’s Word as truth and live our lives according to the principles and lessons found in it.

There are a lot of good things in the Bible you can take hold of to increase your faith. In times of difficulty, it is helpful to read 1 John 4:4 and believe “Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.” In times of doubt or confusion, you can rely on Proverbs 3:51 which says to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.”
